DARREN MAGEE
Non-Executive Director / Shareholder
Scientific Officer & Decontamination Lead
Darren is a dedicated family man, former Royal Air Force Biomedical Engineer, and award-winning inventor. He received a UK Government Department of Trade and Industry SMART Award for innovation in medical devices and industrial injury prevention. In 2022, one of his companies, Holistium Technologies Ltd, was a finalist at the World Sustainability Awards for its work in air pollution control. Darren is a pivotal part of EvoTek Innovations’ advancement, bringing over 30 years’ experience in decontamination science, infection control, and medical device innovation, alongside smart surface and antimicrobial technology development. EvoTek is proud to have Darren as our Scientific Officer and Decontamination Lead. Alongside EvoTek, Darren is Associate Director of Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering at GESH (St George’s, Epsom & St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust). His research and development interests include decontamination sciences, infection control, non-invasive surgical device innovation, Cardiac Assist Therapy (CAT), and the exploration of cancer treatment and disease alleviation using photodynamic and electromagnetic spectrum phenomena. He has acted as a UK Government advisor in a strategic role within an NHS England Task & Finish Group and remains active in London’s Regional Clinical Engineering Network. Internationally, Darren served for three years as Chief Biomedical Engineer for the KSA Royal Commission at the Aramco Industrial City Hospital in Yanbu, near Jeddah. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Darren was recognised for supporting NHS clinical settings, laboratories, and vaccination centres with additional medical device maintenance and repair capability. He also launched an initiative to strengthen the NHS Clinical Engineering workforce by offering training to furloughed Virgin Atlantic aerospace engineers to support medical devices and systems. At EvoTek, Darren champions what he calls CND (Continuous Non-Depleting Decontamination/Disinfection) Technology, promoting smart solutions designed to combat infection risk and antibiotic resistance by treating both air and surfaces in clinical environments. Darren’s latest invention represents a potential step-change in vivo technology, combining recognised scientific phenomena with the aim of enabling a safe, painless alternative or adjunct to surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy. This innovation also shows potential for inactivating blood-borne microorganisms such as HIV, hepatitis, and COVID-19. An active STEM Ambassador and Engineering Council school Neighbourhood Engineer since 2006, Darren has long supported the next generation of engineers and scientists. He is also Medico-Technical Advisor to the Killing Cancer charity and its Photo Dynamic Therapy (PDT) work, though he generally prefers to stay out of the spotlight. Darren is Chair and Founder of ESTA (The Earth Science and Technology Association) and continues to build support across government and industry, helping expand the aims of ESTA and bringing additional innovation into the EvoTek family.
